By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Sept. 23. The police arrested eight persons in connection with the murder of the Pondicherry State Youth Congress vice-president, K. Murali, and had them remanded to judicial custody on Monday.

The Inspector General of Police, U. K. Katna, gave their names as Sivaraman, Sudhakar, Shankar, Chinnamani, Kannan, Manikandan, Vishwanathan and Ravi.

The police are on the lookout for six others, including Karunanidhi, elder brother of Murali. The crime took place on September 17 at Madagadipet, near here. It was found during investigation that the conspiracy to `eliminate Murali' was allegedly hatched on September 11 at the residence of Karunanidhi at J.J. Nagar in Madagadipet. It was alleged that he had assured the culprits that he would pay them Rs. 5 lakhs if they accomplished the crime.

The assailants accordingly attacked Murali with deadly weapons like veecharuval when he was eating food in a canteen room of a bar in the village. He died instantly. Sudharsanam of Tiruvandarkoil was also attacked with a knife causing bleeding injuries.

Mr. Katna said a complaint was received from Sudharsanam that Murali was murdered on the night of September 17 by a group `at the instigation of Karunanidhi, elder brother of Murali' following a dispute over sharing of family property.
