The body of Mariyappa (48) was found hanging from a tree near his house in Begur, near Tumkur. Hebbur police said Mariyappa had borrowed money and was not well. His wife, Jayamma, had undergone major surgery recently. His daughter, Narasamma (18), was the sole breadwinner of the family. Mariyappa owned 17 guntas of land. In another case, the body of Rangadhamaiah (55) of Doddasaggere in Koratagere taluk was found hanging from a tree near his fields. Koratagere police said he owned four acres of land in which the standing crops had withered for want of water. He had borrowed Rs. 25,000 to raise the crops. Shankaralinge Gowda (53) of Horaginahalli in Turuvekere Taluk of the district, died at Adichunchanagiri Hospital at Bellur Cross. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday after he allegedly consumed poison. He owned two acres of land. His family members said he had taken Rs. 20,900 loan from a bank at Mavinkere. Dodde Gowda (65) of Minaganahali in Halebeed hobli of Belur taluk in Hassan district reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison. Dodde Gowda, who owned six acres of land, left for his relative's place three days ago and his body was recovered on Monday evening near Chatachattanahalli. According to a complaint filed by his wife, Dodde Gowda had borrowed Rs. 27,000 from a nationalised bank in B. Kodihalli and his son had borrowed Rs. 20,000. He had cultivated sunflower and ragi on his land, but the crops failed due to lack of rainfall. Shivaswami (40) of Haligodanahalli in Mudadi Gram Panchayat in Arsikere taluk committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Monday. Although his relatives attempted to shift him to hospital, he died on the way. According to police, Shivaswamy owned four acres of land on which he cultivated potato. He had borrowed Rs. 30,000 for the purpose but the crop failed.
