Two naval ships visit Mangalore port

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE SEPT. 23. Two ships of the Indian Navy, INS Sharada and INS Tir, arrived today at the New Mangalore Port on a day's visit as part of the World Maritime Day celebrations.

The Mangalore port has been recognised by the International Maritime Organisation, which provides the mechanism whereby governments of various countries with an interest in shipping can come together to decide on standards for international voyages.

There are 162 members in the organisation, who include not just countries in which ships are registered, but also coastal provinces which supply support services and manpower to the shipping industry.

As a part of the celebrations, the port authorities organised a seminar on maritime business and allowed the public to visit the port and look at the ships.
