Cheering crowds all the way

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD SEPT. 23. For almost six hours, the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Tuesday traversed the dingy lanes and by-lanes of Karwan seeking support for the BJP candidate, Baddam Bal Reddy, in the coming by-election. The campaign, which started at Mehedipatnam crossroads, wend its way through Jiyaguda, Dhoolpet, Mallepally, Langar Houz and Golconda, before culminating at Toli Chowk around 10.20 p.m.

While Mr. Naidu addressed a series of well-attended street corner meetings, the other leaders, both from the TDP and the BJP, quietly lent strength to the campaign with their presence.

While the Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Bandaru Dattaterya, made a brief speech at couple of places, others, including the Tourism Minister, T. Srinivas Yadav, the Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy, and MLA, K. Laxman, just smiled and waved at the crowd.

Mr. Srinivas Yadav walked almost the whole of campaign route and was seen organising meetings and interacting with local leaders on the arrangements.

The entire route was lined up with enthusiastic crowd and women too were present in good numbers. They waved back whenever the Chief Minister flashed his trademark `V' sign. However, at some places dominated by Urdu- speaking population, Mr. Naidu's speech in Telugu failed to evoke much response in the absence of a translation.
