The action plan, announced by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Murli Manohar Joshi, at a closed-door session, includes creating gender awareness, addressing harmful social customs such as dowry and female foeticide, rehabilitating abused women, educating men and boys, protecting women in public spheres and involving women in temple service.Inaugurating the summit, Yolanda King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., said the need of the hour was to follow the path shown by the Mata. Women were phenomenally created by God to hold the vision of peace and love and wholeness for all beings.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, Najma Heptullah, presided over the meet. Linda Evans, Hollywood actress and environmental activist, told a cheering audience that ``we need people like Mata to remind us of our intrinsic greatness''.
