Demand to start work on Vizhinjam harbour

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Sept. 25. The Capital City Development Forum will send a delegation to the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the Union Shipping Minister in the first week of October demanding that work be started on the Vizhinjam harbour immediately.

A meeting of the forum held here today, decided that the Union Minister of State for Defence, O. Rajagopal, would head the delegation comprising the Mayor, J. Chandra, the Thiruvananthapuram MPs, the CPI(M) district secretary, M. Vijayakumar, and the BJP leader, B.K. Sekhar. The proposal was made by the forum secretary, K.T. Roy, at the meeting.

Varkala Radhakrishnan, MP, who addressed the meeting, accused the Chief Minister, A.K.Antony, of not taking interest in setting up a High Court bench in the capital. Mr. Radhakrishnan pointed out that an all-party delegation led by the Karnataka Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, had met the Chief Justice to set up a High Court bench at Gulbarga.

The meeting decided to meet Mr. Antony and discuss the issue. It also expressed concern over the pollution of the Karamana and Killi rivers. They wanted the Government to set up a new sewerage scheme to protect the rivers.
