Taj scam: U.P. Govt. orders judicial probe

Lucknow Sept. 26. The Uttar Pradesh Government today ordered a judicial inquiry into the allegations of malpractices committed in the Taj Expressway Authority, an ambitious project of the erstwhile Mayawati dispensation.

The one-man judicial commission, to be headed by the retired High Court Judge, S.R. Misra, would conduct the inquiry into the Rs. 2,500-crore project for constructing a 160-km eight-lane expressway connecting greater Noida and Agra, the Chief Secretary, A.P. Singh, told newspersons here. The commission is likely to complete its inquiry within two months.

Mr. Singh said the Government had received several complaints about malpractices in the allotment of land and bidding by private parties. — PTI
