The Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, told newspersons here that P. Yellappa of Nerimetla and Ch. Prakash of Mopidi in Uravakonda mandal and E. Veera Reddy, G. Laxmanna and G. Madduleti of Nalladasaripalli in Guntakal rural mandal were arrested by the police near Uravakonda on specific information. While Yellappa worked with the CPI(ML) Vimukti Patham group previously, G. Laxmanna and E. Veera Reddy were the sympathisers. Madduleti was a dump keeper of the pseudo naxal group and Prakash was a classmate of the group leader B. Narasimhulu, who was eluding the police along with another accused Praveen. Police recovered five tapanchas, 40 rounds of .12 bore ammunition, letter pads in the name of CPI(ML), kits bags, ammunition belts and a party banner from the arrested men. Explaining the birth and modus operandi of the group, the SP said B. Narasimhulu was a student of M.Sc. computer science in SKU and was a boarder of Room No. 106 in Pinakini hostel. His two elder brother, Ramanjaneyulu and Narayana had worked with the Vimukti Patham previously. He hatched a plan to make easy money by the way of extortion in the name of naxalite groups and had enlisted a few surrendered naxalites of Vimukti Patham and his friends for the purpose. Accordingly, he roped in Praveen of Uravakonda and Pedda Guruswamy and Chinna Guruswamy of Kalekurthi in Kanekal mandal along with the five arrested, the SP stated. Narasimulu invited Praveen, an alleged illicit arms trader, and Prakash to his hostel room in July this year and explained his plan. They readily accepted the plan and chalked out a strategy through regular meetings in the hostel room on how to go about, whom to target, procurement of weapons and others. On September 5, the group met on the outskirts of Gonderla village and forced five shepherds of Jallipalli to pose as naxalites by mounting kit bags on their backs and tying the ammunition belts and photographed them from backside. Later, Narasimhulu allegedly issued statements to the press in the name of the CPI(ML) KS and VP groups along with the photograph of the shepherds to create fear among the public. The SP said the pseudo naxal dalam terrorised the toddy and civil contractors in the Uravakonda area with the help of weapons and started extortion of money. The group had collected Rs. 50,000 and a cell phone from Narayana Reddy of Nemtabad, Rs. 1.4 lakhs from Narayana Mestri of Nakkanadoddi, Rs. 29,000 from Chandra of Chintalampalli. They had also demanded Rs. 60,000 from Katamaiah and Akkulappa of Gollaladoddi. Mr. Anil Kumar said Narasimhulu had been carrying out the activities in the garb of student from his hostel room itself. Police were on the look out for Narasimhulu and Praveen, he added.
