Three officials, including a section engineer, were placed under suspension and a departmental enquiry was ordered. Mr. Moorthy, on board a special train to Dindigul from here, called for the inspection shortly after the train crossed Samayanallur. However, the officials claimed that "de-stressing' and "deep-screening" works were under way on the section. "A caution order was also under operation with a speed restriction of 75 kmph. The workers removed the clips to clear the ballast from foreign bodies as per routine procedure. The track was fit for safe passage of trains," an official told The Hindu. The "deficiency" pointed out by the Minister was rectified within hours.
