Backward communities told to work for progress

By Our Staff Correspondent

CHITRADURGA SEPT. 29. The Minister for Social Welfare, A. Krishnappa, has said that oppressed communities should organise themselves and work for the betterment of the backward classes.

He was addressing a gathering here on Monday after laying the foundation for the Sri Yadava Maha Samsthana, the math of the Yadava community.

The Yadava community was one of the backward communities in the State in all respects, he said.

"We should organise at least now," the Minister added.

"Some people in our community are apprehensive that we may be treated as the followers of Basaveshwara as our guru has been trained by the Murugharajendra Math. Some fear that we may become a part of the Basava Pantha. We shouldn't consider them seriously. Caste, creed, and religion shouldn't come in the way of acquiring wisdom," Mr. Krishnappa said.

He called upon the community members to donate generously to develop the math.

Sri Shivamurthi Murugharajendra Sharana, seer of the Murugharajendra Math, who spoke, asked people to work for social justice.

He explained the deep-rooted relationship between "Basava Samskruthi" and "Yadava Samskruthi".

Sri Basava Yadavananda Swamiji, seer of Yadava Gurupeetha, blessed the gathering.

A.V. Umapathi, former MLA, and S.K. Basvarajan, administrator of the Murugharajendra Math, spoke.
