Official sources told The Hindu here on Monday that even after a 0.25-ft rise in the water level in the Linganamakki reservoir as on September 16, the level in the reservoir was 14.14 ft lower than the 10-year average water level. Similarly, though the level of the Supa reservoir had increased by 0.26 ft recently, the level of the reservoir was 42.47 ft lower than the 10-year average water level. The current water level in the Supa reservoir was 2.40 ft lower than last year's level during the corresponding period. Sources said there had been a 0.13-ft decrease in the water level in the Varahi reservoir. The current water level in the reservoir was 19.71 ft lower than the 10-year average and 9.48 ft lower than previous year's water level during the corresponding period. As per data available till September 16, there had been a sharp decrease in the water levels in major reservoirs in the Cauvery basin. In KRS, the decrease was 2.02 ft and the present level was 31.34 ft lower than the 10-year average water level and 8.35 ft lower than last year's water level during the corresponding period. Sources said that in the Harangi reservoir, there had been a 0.49-ft decrease in the water level and the present level was 0.21 feet lower than the 10-year average of water and 0.17 ft lower than last year's water level during the corresponding period. Similarly, in the Kabini reservoir, there had been a 2.97-ft decrease in the water level and the current level was 6.36 ft lower than the 10-year average water level and 1.61 ft lower than last year's level during the corresponding period. In the Hemavathi reservoir, there had been a 3.97-ft decrease in the water level and the current level in the reservoir was 41.76 ft lower than the 10-year average water level and 20.97 ft lower than last year's level during the corresponding period. But, the sources said the water levels in major reservoirs in the Krishna basin had increased considerably, barring a decrease in the Narayanpur and Alamatti reservoirs. Even in the case of reservoirs in the Krishna basin, the current water levels were lower than the average over 10 years. In the Bhadra reservoir, there was an increase in the level by 0.38 ft. But, the current water level was 34.96 ft lower than the 10-year average water level and 5.62 ft lower than last year's level during the corresponding period. Similarly in the Tungabhadra reservoir, there had been an increase of 0.18 ft, but the current water level in the reservoir was 10.15 ft lower than the 10-year average water level and 1.30 ft lower than last year's water level during the corresponding period. The sources also said that in the Ghataprabha reservoir, there had been a 0.13-ft increase in the water level, but the current water level was 8.19 ft lower than the 10-year average and 4.07 ft lower than last year's water level during the corresponding period. In the Narayanpur reservoir, there had been a 3.97 ft decrease in the water level. But, the current water level in the reservoir was 5.35 ft higher than the 10-year average water level. In the Alamatti reservoir, there had been a decrease of 0.04 ft.
