World Bank loan for Maharashtra

NEW DELHI
SEPT. 30.
The World Bank will provide $181.0 million for Maharashtra Rural Water Supply and Sanitation "Jalswarajya" Project. With a total cost of $268.6 million, it will directly benefit 2,800 village panchayats in 26 districts covering a population of 7 million. The beneficiaries are mainly the rural poor. The objectives of the project are to increase rural households access to improved and sustainable drinking water and sanitation service and to institutionalise decentralisation of water supply and sanitation service delivery to rural local governments and communities. The project is expected to be completed by March 31, 2009.
