Assam
By Our Special Correspondent
The inquiry will be conducted by the Additional District Magistrate of Tinsukia. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of civil and police officials, including the Chief Secretary and the DGP at the State Secretariat, presided over by the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Bhumidhar Barman, in the absence of the Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi. Deputy Commissioners have been directed not to leave their headquarters till the Puja holidays are over. They have also been asked to persuade the tea garden managements to settle the bonus issue quickly and in a fair manner. To prevent any untoward incident, police and Assam Tea Protection Force are being deployed in vulnerable tea gardens where no agreement on bonus has been reached so far. A control room has been set up at the office of the IGP(SB) at Guwahati to monitor the situation.
