Motor strike affects normal life

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM Sept. 30. Normal life in Kollam district was considerably affected by the 24-hour motor strike which began from midnight yesterday. A holiday mood prevailed as educational institutions remained closed and the otherwise busy business areas of the city wore a deserted look.

As private vehicles plied as usual, private buses, autorickshaws and taxis remained off the roads giving the atmosphere along the roads a hartal look. While wholesaler dealers kept shutters down, retailers opened their shops in the morning with sale expectations. However, by afternoon many of them too downed shutters due to lack of customers.

Chinnakada, the main business centre of the district, which remains congested with vehicles was by and large empty.
