Speaking to newsmen at Vempalle after examining the line-laying works from Papaghni river to Allireddipalle and Thuvvapalle villages, the SE said domestic consumers owed Rs. 30 crores while the agricultural consumers' dues stood at Rs. 40 crores. Recovery of dues was nominal in view of the severe drought, he observed and lamented that farmers who were financially sound were also not clearing the dues and urged them to pay the bills promptly. Funds had been sanctioned to construct 33 kv sub-stations at Vempalle, Jammalamadugu and Porumamilla and tenders would be called shortly for the works, Mr. Balasubrahmanyam said. Power cut was being imposed temporarily whenever supply from Simhadri grid was affected, he stated. He promised to consider applications from farmers seeking nine-hour power supply, they were, in general, not keen on nine-hour supply at present. Power was being supplied at Re. 1 per unit under the Tatkal scheme and supplied at 50 paise per unit to those utilising tools certified by the ISI. Burnt transformers were being replaced within 24 hours and farmers need not pay money to any employee for the purpose, he stated. The dues of nearly 4,000 agricultural pumpsets were waived, he said. Meter reading had been entrusted on contract and there were some teething troubles, he added.
