Dr. GRD College wins basketball title

The Dr GRD College of Science team which won the men's basketball title in the 11th Karunya Evangeline Memorial State-level inter-collegiate tournament at the KIT campus in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

Coimbatore Sept. 30. A solo effort by Gowtham at a crucial juncture dashed the hopes of Annamalai University, Chidambaram, which went down fighting 0-1 to Loyola College, Chennai, in the football final of the 11th Karunya Evangeline Memorial state level inter-collegiate tournaments at the KIT grounds here.

Earlier, Ethiraj College, Chennai, toppled Sri Meenakshi College, Madurai, 31-14 for the women's kabaddi title, while Tiruchendur Adithanar College men had to huff and puff to oust St. Joseph's College, Tiruchi, 35-30 for the men's title.

Meanwhile, Dr GRD College of Science combined well as a unit to pip Annamalai varsity 62-59 at the post for the basketball title for men, while MOP Vaishnava women from Chennai breezed past favourite Nirmala College for the women's crown. This is the fourth successive title for the Dr GRD men in a space of two months.

Later in the day, Dr D.G.S. Dhinakaran, KIT Founder, and Dr Stella Dhinakaran, Director of Jesus Calls Ministries International, gave way the prizes.

The results (men, kabaddi): Adithanar College (Tiruchendur) bt St. Joseph's (Tiruchi) 35-30. Football: Loyola College (Chennai) bt Annamalai (Chidambaram) 1-0. Basketball: Dr GRD CS (Coimbatore) bt Annamalai (Chidamabaram) 62-59. Women: Kabaddi: Ethiraj College (Chennai) bt Sri Meenakshi College (Madurai) 31-14.
