Guntur inches closer to the leader

VIJAYAWADA Sept. 30. Guntur came within half a point of holder Kanchipuram in the National cities chess championships at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium here on Tuesday. While Kanchipuram and Guntur had seven and six and a half points each respectively, Tenali lay in third position with six.

The results: Guntur 6.5 bt Vijayawada 5.5 (2.5-1.5) (G.V. Srinivas bt J. Malleswara Rao, B.R.Ch. Murthy lost to Ch.K. Krishna, K.S. Srikar drew with M.S. Rao, S. Tejas Chandra bt Sk. Khasim).

Kanchipuram 7 bt Vijayawada A 4.5 (3.5-0.5) (T. Krishnan bt M.R. Lalith Babu, S. Arul drew with B. Kranthi Kumar, S. Krishnan bt P.S. Sai Sasank, A. Sankar bt L. Mahendra Venkat).

Tenali 6 bt Eluru 4.5 (3-1) (K.N. Gopal drew with D. Laxman Rao, T. Gowtham bt J. Srinivas Babu, Ch. Rajkumar bt S. Durgaprasad, C.R.G. Krishnan drew with S. Raviteja).
