Consumer index drops two points

SHIMLA: The all India consumer price index for industrial workers (base 1982=100) decreased by two points during August to 499. The decrease was mainly due to drop in prices of moong dal, groundnut oil, mustard oil, fish fresh, vegetables and fruits and kerosene oil among others, a Labour Bureau release said. The consumer index had increased by three points in August 2002. The point-to-point rate of inflation, based on CPI-IW also decreased from 4.16 per cent in July to 3.10 per cent in August. — PTI
