Take care of your party, BJP tells Sonia

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI SEPT. 30. The Bharatiya Janata Party president, Venkaiah Naidu, today "advised" the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, to look after her own party instead of worrying about the BJP leadership.

"We will look after ourselves. She should devote some time to her own party," Mr. Naidu said, reacting to Ms. Gandhi's comments on the BJP. He said the Congress had lost Nagaland, in Arunachal Pradesh its legislators had crossed over to the BJP bringing down the Congress Government and it had become clear from Monday's byelection results that the Congress had got a drubbing everywhere.

Mr. Naidu said the Congress Pradesh Committee chief in Kerala had described the Ernakulum defeat as the "defeat of the Chief Minister", while in Solapur, the seat formerly held by the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Sushilkumar Shinde, the BJP won with a huge margin. It showed that people everywhere were moving away from the Congress, Mr. Naidu added.
