Teach TDP a lesson, says Rosaiah

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR Sept. 30. The official spokesman of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, K. Rosaiah, has called upon people to "show the door'' to the NDA Government at the Centre and the TDP Government in the State "which are caught neck-deep in scandals by ignoring people's welfare.''

The District Congress Committee (DCC) organised a `protest rally' as part of the "janjagaran abhiyan'' today. The rally, which began at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan here passed through Jinnah Tower Centre and culminated in a public meeting at the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) building. Congress workers raised slogans against the NDA Government and the TDP Government.

Addressing the public meeting, Mr. Rosaiah said the Union Ministry of Defence was "full of scams'' under the NDA Regime and there was no end to scandals in the State under TDP rule. He said these were not allegations being made by rival political parties, but they were being published with documentary evidences by various newspapers.

He also criticised the BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, for supporting the cause of the Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, whose handling of riots drew flak from the Supreme Court.

Similarly, the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, was reataining the Minister, P. Ramasubba Reddy, in his Cabinet, even after the State High Court expressed surprise over his continuance. Mr. Naidu was saying that Mr. Reddy was "innocent'' and he would be continued in the Cabinet.

"Will democracy thrive under the leadership of governments which have a scant respect for the judiciary?'' he asked. Mr. Rosaiah said he was doubtful if the BJP would hand over power, even if it lost the next elections.

Levelling serious charges against the State Government, he said that the Government spent Rs. 250 crores for the National Games held in Hyderabad and won 240 medals out of which 120 were won by "rented'' players. He found fault with the Chief Minister's attempt to get Formula-1 races to the State. "I wonder how Mr. Naidu is craving for conducting games, even as there have been disturbances everywhere for irrigation water,'' he quipped.

The DCC president, Rayapati Srinivas, presided. The APCC vice-president, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, also participated in the rally.
