Haryana
By Our Special Correspondent
The proposal was made by the Executive Chairman of the BSES Limited, Satish Seth, who also gave a presentation to the Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, and senior officers of the State Government here today. Mr.Chautala assured all assistance of the State Government in setting up the project at a suitable place identified by them. He also stressed that in case BSES set up the project, the retail power tariff should be competitive to benefit the consumers. Mr.Seth said that initially an investment of Rs.12, 000 crores would be made in generation and transmission of power, which would shoot up to Rs.14, 000 crores in the next three to four years. This plant would not only help Haryana in meeting growing demand for power but also be able to feed the neighbouring States. Apart from this, the power project would generate employment opportunities for a large number of people in the State. He urged the State Government to allot a piece of land, measuring 1,000 hectares to 2,500 hectares, and assured water supply of 150 MLD to enable the BSES to set up the project at the earliest. The entire risk of collections would be of the BSES. He also offered to join hands with the State Power Utilities to set up a joint venture. He suggested that the State Government should declare power as a high priority area and give certain fiscal exemptions for smooth functioning of the project. He said that the gas for the project would be brought to the State by Reliance itself. The Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, B.D.Dhalia, and senior officers of the Haryana Power Utilities were also present.
