Jyoti Basu's wife dead

Kolkata Sept. 30. Kamal Basu, wife of the former West Bengal Chief Minister, Jyoti Basu, died at a Salt Lake nursing home tonight after a protracted illness, doctors said. She was 73. The Basus have a son,Chandan.

Sources in the CPI(M) said the party leaders, including the State secretary, Anil Biswas, the Left Front chairman, Biman Bose, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Nirupam Sen, and the Health Minister, Suryakanta Mishra, paid homage to Mrs. Basu.

The Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, has condoled the death of Mrs. Basu.

The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president, Pranab Mukherjee and senior party leader, Somen Mitra, met Mr. Basu and conveyed their condolences.— PTI
