BJP betrayed Hindutva cause: VHP leader

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI OCT. 1. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad senior vice-president, Acharya Giriraj Kishore, said today that the BJP had betrayed the Hindutva cause and the Ram temple movement.

At a meeting of VHP supporters, he said it was a mistake on the part of the VHP to have projected the BJP as the representative of the Hindus. The BJP did not fulfil expectations, and the VHP lost the support of the other parties.

The BJP wanted to use the temple movement as a vote-gathering issue. Therefore, the VHP had to criticise the top BJP lleadership openly. The BJP was unable to include the temple issue in the Government's agenda for fear of opposition from the allies. But it should have sacrificed the Government and gone to the people for a fresh mandate.
