Harry Tanamor will be one of the boxers from his country at the coming Afro Asian Games at Hyderabad later this month. Harry sized up his opponent to a nicety dodging punches and throwing his own hits to streak to a 15-4 lead in the first round. He was in an aggressive mood in the second and with a sizzling left hook had Sonu taking the mandatory count before the bout resumed. Harry had established a 26-8 lead by the end of the second round. Sonu knew he was vanquished and with Harry keeping up the onslaught the jury at the table thumped on the table to inform the referee judge that the bout was over. Harry Tanamor showed excellent boxing ethics in opening the ropes to let Sonu leave the ring. The Philippines squad was in great form continuing its winning run with Parrenas Warlifo getting the better of Indian hope Girish Powar. Parrenas Warlifo clearly landed more punches than his Indian rival and had a 28-14 winning margin at the end of the fourth round. The most exciting bout of the day was between the two Olympic qualifiers Manju Dinesh Kumar of Sri Lanka and Lerio Arlan of Philippines. The Sri Lankan made a strong attack in the first round and established an 8-4 lead. Lerio came back strongly and was just a point shy of the Sri Lankan in the second round. Executing a number of hits to the chin in the third round, Lerio gained the judges' favour and took the lead by two points in the third round and continuing his strong attack won the bout with a comfortable lead in the final round. Manju had the consolation of being declared the `best loser.' The Hungarian boxers too kept up an unbeaten run with Istavan Szucs battering India's Rajkumar into submission by the fourth round. Istavan treaded cautiously in the opening round letting Rajkumar lose steam by throwing a number of ineffective punches. Szucs a gold medallist at Hungary and a bronze medallist at the European championships had gauged Rajkumar's style easily and twice had the Indian facing the mandatory count. Midway through the final round the jury put Rajkumar's misery to an end stopping the bout with no hope of his catching up on points. Suresh Kumar, a former Indian Olympian is a keenly watched prospect for the country. He had suffered a head injury while losing his previous bout. The youngster on a comeback trail had been awarded a walkover in his first bout in this tournament and was thus making a re-appearance into the ring. He showed he was a pugnacious slugger who loves to attack and with his hit and run tactics had opponent Aswani Sharma fighting a losing bout. Suresh however was a little rusty understandably so as he was short of match practice.
