Richardson follows the Wright path

Rajkot Oct. 2. New Zealand's first century maker (128 batting, 381m, 304b, 18x4, 1x6) on the current tour, Mark Richardson said he has moulded his game on John Wright's and that he had scratched around initially.

"It's up to the individual to absorb pressure and make sure he doesn't give his wicket away. I was just sticking to my gameplan. I just graft away. The wickets in Sri Lanka were pretty flat. I put my head down and do what I know best. I don't struggle with the heat. I find it tough, but I have never had trouble with heat stroke or anything like that.''

Richardson said he had formulated a technique to play spin that sort of works. "Today 90 per cent of it was mental, wanting to survive the whole day. This was my first chance to bat in a game for probably three months since we returned from Sri Lanka. I was desperate to get time in the middle and didn't want to throw my wicket away cheaply, but I hope I haven't used up all my luck.'' — Our Special Correspondent
