Merchant at his best

MUMBAI Oct. 3: Yasin Merchant showed off his mastery in a 5-1 win over Chirag Ramakrishnan, while youngsters Jaswinder Singh and Rishabh Thakkar made a favourable impression enroute to the snooker quarterfinals phase in the Rexello Castor P.J. Hindu Gymkhana All-India Open billiards and snooker tournament on Friday.

Sarang Shroff too advanced into the last eight stage but after overcoming a few hiccups on the way.

Jaswinder played the match of the day to down Busan Asian Games winner Rafat Habib 5-3, Rishabh's steady play found him a way past experienced Devendra Joshi 5-0.

The latter, however, forged ahead in the billiards event at the expense of Subhash Agrawal.

Former world champion Geet Sethi announced his intention of vying for title stakes by taking first four frames against S. Simachalam.
