Krithika, Adhiban triumph

Koviloor Oct. 8 . Pon K. Krithika (Kanchi), H. Sowmya (Erode), B. Adhiban (Chennai) and R. Premnath (Mount Chess Academy) won the boys' and girls' under 11 and 13 titles respectively in the 16th Tamil Nadu State chess championship, sponsored by Sree Muthu Chamber Bricks, Karaikudi, here on Wednesday.

In a nail-biting finish in the under-13 boys event, Aswin Jayaram (Chennai) was surprised by R. Premnath who emerged winner. Overnight leader C.S. Rajesh (Coimbatore) also suffered a jolt when Karthikeyan shocked him in the final round.

Final standings: Boys u-11: 1. B. Adhiban (Chennai-9.5) 2. S. Karthikeyan (Cbe-9) 3. S.P. Sethuraman (Che-8.5) 4. S. Nitin (Salem-8.5) 5. M. Shyam Sundar (Che-8.5); U-13: R. Premnath (MCA-9) 2. Arun Karthik (Tvl-8.5) 3. P. Karthikeyan (Che-8.5) 4. C.S. Rajesh (Cbe-8) 5. Aswin Jayaram (Che-8).

Girls: u-11: 1. Pon N. Krithika (Kanchi-9.5) 2. K.E.R. Ranjitha (Che-8.5) 3. R. Bharathi (Che-8) 4. S.V. Sathyapriya (Salem-8) 5. R. Visalatchi(Vdu); U-13: 1. H. Sowmya (Erode-9.5) 2. D.S. Maanasa Priyaa (Dpi-9.5) 3. A. Seethalakshmi (Mdu-8) 4. R. Preethi (madu-8) 5. K. vaishnavi (Che-7).
