Maharashtra Cong. seeks explanation from Ministers

By Arunkumar Bhatt

MUMBAI Oct. 9. The Maharashtra Congress has sought explanation from 11 ministers about their acts of omission and commission in the Solapur Lok Sabha election in which the party was humbled despite it being the home constituency of the Chief Minister, Sushilkumar Shinde.

The State party action comes in the wake of the visit of an inquiry committee of two Congress stalwarts — Balram Jakhar and Motilal Vora — sent here by the All-India Congress Committee to spot the causes for the defeat. The two leaders have found that the party in the State going to polls next year to elect its Assembly along with the Lok Sabha members lacks unity and its leaders are more interested in settling personal scores and eliminating internal rivals.

Among the Ministers facing action are the former Chief Minister, Shivajirao Nilangekar Patil, who holds the revenue portfolio in the Shinde Government and the Industries Minister, Patangrao Kadam. Other Ministers are Ashok Chavan and Vilaskaka Patil.
