dated October 11, 1953: U.S. woos Pakistan with Arms

In its latest issue, American magazine News and World Report said that Mr. John Foster Dulles, Secretary of State, and Admiral Arthur Radford of the U.S. Joint Chiefs group, were both interested in Pakistan joining MEDO, the Middle Eastern Defence Command, in order to "plug the gap created by India's staying neutral towards the Communists of Russia and China. The U.S.A. would be expected to pick up a cheque for about 250 million dollars annually to provide arms for Pakistan."
