Best Bakery case: more surrender

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD Oct.10. Six more accused in the Best Bakery communal riot case surrendered before police today and were later released on bail. They presented themselves at the Panigate police station in Vadodara and were produced in H.U. Mahida's fast track court where they were granted bail on personal surety of Rs. 10,000 each. Thirteen accused had surrendered and were granted bail yesterday while arrest warrants, issued as per the Gujarat High Court's directive, were yet to be served on two more accused. Police said the remaining two were expected to surrender in the next couple of days. All the 21 accused were earlier acquitted by Mr. Mahida for want of evidence following which the State Government had filed an amended petition in the High Court for a re-trial of the case.

Meanwhile, the Movement for Secular Democracy staged a dharna here demanding that all the communal carnage cases be tried outside Gujarat, the inquiry into them handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation and adequate compensation paid to riot victims and their return home ensured.
