"The name of Ms. Rajana Kumar has been proposed and she is slated to take up the new assignment as chairperson of NABARD in a week's time,'' the Union Minister of State for Finance, Anandrao Adsul, said on the sidelines of an international conference-cum-exhibition of women entrepreneurs here today. The post of NABARD chairperson has been lying vacant since the tenure of Y. C. Nanda ended three months ago, as also that of Managing Director, which was yet to be filled even after eight months. The National Co-operative Agriculture and Rural Development Banks' Federation had last month written to the Government urging it to fill up these two posts on a priority basis. This (vacancy) has led to a vaccum and ad hocism in the top management affecting its working in the areas of agriculture and rural development, the federation had said. Mr. Adsul, referring to the creation of post of a fourth deputy governor in Reserve Bank of India for handling co-operative banks, reiterated that the proposal was still on the cards. PTI
