"The primary purpose of their meeting with Mr. Powell was to discuss the U.S. and India's growing economic, social and political ties and the potential of the improving relationship. Meanwhile, at the briefing, the spokesman, Richard Boucher, without getting into specifics, said the U.S. would encourage India to deal with the issues that it had with neighbours. "...As we develop the relations with India, which have developed...quite remarkably for the last few years and as we look for further ways to develop those relationships, we also look for ways to encourage them to deal with the issues that they have with their neighbours, Pakistan in particular," Mr. Boucher said.
