Robbery in train, NRI dead

Ludhiana Oct. 11. A London-based non-resident Indian, Balwant Singh, 54, died while five members of his family fell unconscious after taking `pedas' offered by a co-traveller in the Punjab Mail somewhere near Bareilly, the victims and railway sources here said.

All the six fell unconscious after eating ``pedas (a sweet meat)'' offered by a fellow traveller, who had introduced himself as Kuldip Singh, the daughter-in-law of the victim told reporters.

They were robbed of cash and valuables worth Rs. 2,70,000.

The robbery came to notice today at the city railway station here where the train made its scheduled halt. — UNI
