Varsity libraries to be linked with digital sites

By Our Staff Correspondent

JAIPUR OCT. 11. The libraries and faculties of all the universities across the country will soon be connected with the digital mirror sites to make available research papers published in over 400 international journals on various subjects free of cost. Announcing this at Janardanrai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth in Udaipur on Friday, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Arun Nigavekar, said the digital connectivity on a massive scale would ensure prompt access to useful information and to improve the quality of education. At present, the availability of research journals is limited due to their exorbitant costs.

Prof. Nigavekar inaugurated a new guest house built at a cost of Rs. 15 lakhs in the Vidyapeeth and called for meeting the challenge posed by the emergence of "new equations'' following greater economic progress and improvement in the gross domestic product (GDP) combined with the state of education in the globalisation era.
