50 Maoists killed

Kathmandu Oct. 11. In one of the fiercest clashes since a seven-month-old ceasefire collapsed in mid-August, at least 50 Maoists and three security personnel were killed in an encounter in western Nepal, security sources said today.

The clash occurred when around 1,000 rebels attacked a regional base of the armed police force last night in Banke district. Three security personnel were killed and six injured in the clash that lasted 10 hours. — PTI
