PCC chief repeats free power promise

By Our Special Correspondent

Hyderabad Oct. 11. The APCC president, D. Srinivas, has said that if returned to power, the party will give free power not only to the farm sector but also to the domestic sector (for single bulb connection) to help the weaker sections.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Srinivas said the promise would be fulfilled by the party. There was no need for any doubts in this regard. The party was fully geared to meet the eventuality of early elections.

Saying that the party leadership in the State and the national level was keeping a close watch on dissidence, he said leaders wanted to differ on free power supply or on any issue, they could write to him or the AICC president, but not go to the press.

Referring to the outbursts of the Congress Forum for Telangana leaders against the CLP leader, Y.S . Rajasekhara Reddy, he warned of stern action against open demonstration of indiscipline.

Mr. Srinivas said people were eagerly awaiting the return of the Congress rule in the State as they were vexed with the "anti-people'' policies of the ruling party. Sensing the negative winds, the Telugu Desam was trying to create an "artificial sympathy wave'' by bringing people in truckloads. Such gimmicks would not work this time, he said.

Mr. Srinivas congratulated the Congress leaders for their active involvement in the `Jan Jagaran Abhiyan' to highlight the failures of the TD Government and said concluding functions would be held in all districts on October 15.

The PCC review meetings with district leaders began today with Mr. Srinivas covering the Adilabad DCC and Hyderabad City Congress Committee affairs.
