Participating as chief guest at the inaugural of the three-day second annual convention of Indian Arthroscopy Society, he said that suggestions should encompass within its fold ambulance services, first aid and ambulance posts in dispensaries, casualties-receiving stations, accident units in Government hospitals and wireless communication systems besides linking all these units and the police. Voluntary services like the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Indian ed Cross Society and St John's Ambulance Society may assist in creating awareness among people about accidents. "It is necessary to ensure that police enquiry procedures and rules do not result in harassment of citizens and doctors rendering assistance to the victims of accidents," he said. The Governor expressed concern that the annual rate of fatalities and disabilities due to traffic accidents in the country was increasing enormously. Injury by accident might result in considerable suffering to the victim and therefore, road accidents called for preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of care. Stating that the arthroscopic surgeries involved minimum invasive procedure without the hassles of prolonged hospitalisation and immobility, he emphasised the need for a consensus of opinion in the highly technical aspects of treatment and theory. Sharing of knowledge and experience was mandatory in any filed of science, more so in medical science, where the results would directly improve the health of people. The Indian Arthroscopy Society president, David Rajan, the NIMS Director, Kakarla Subba Rao, and others spoke.
