Hyderabad-Tandur train extended up to Sedam

WADI (GULBARGA DT) Oct. 13. The Union Minister of State for Railways, Basanagouda Patil R. Yatnal, today announced the extension of the Hyderabad-Tandur passenger train up to Sedam and that the Bijapur-Yeshwantpur Express train would run twice a week instead of once a week.

After inspecting the facilities at Sedam, Wadi, Shahbad, and Gulbarga railway stations along with senior officials of the South Central Railway and Central Railway, Mr. Yatnal said the Hyderabad-Tandur Passenger train would start running up to Sedam from November 1, while the rescheduling of the Bijapur-Yeshwantpur Express would be done in a month.

He said it was also proposed to change the timings of the Bijapur-Yeshwantpur Express train to ensure its arrival at Yeshwantpur at 8.30 a.m. The Minister said he had instructed Railway officials to change the timings of the train at the earliest. Mr. Yatnal said work on the Mangalore-Hassan rail line had been delayed due to the non-release of its share of funds by the State Government. The Railways had released its share of Rs. 20 crore for the project, he said.

Despite the delay in the release of its share of funds by the State Government, the Railway Ministry had ensured that the work did not suffer. The first part of the railway line from Mangalore to Hassan would be thrown open to traffic on November 14 and the line up to Subramanya would be inaugurated by the end of March. The laying of the line up to Shravanabelagola would be completed by December 2004.

Referring to the complaint of the State Government that drought relief work had been affected due to non-arrival of 65,000 tonnes of foodgrains allotted to the State by the Centre under the food-for work programme due the delay in allotment of rakes to transport foodgrains, Mr. Yatnal said there was no truth in the charges.
