Kerala

Speaking to The Hindu here today, he said the Government's indecisiveness in solving problems during the past two-and-a-half years in power amounted to testing the patience of the people. In the last Assembly elections, people had bestowed their trust in the UDF, after being dissatisfied with the LDF. It is in the initial years in power that the Government can take up issues and chart out a course of action. But the Government had been postponing action on important issues by constituting committees and sub-committees, he said. Rising unemployment, the crisis in agriculture, plantation and fisheries sectors were serious issues facing the State. Instead of taking steps to tackle serious issues, public meetings were being convened to indulge in open wrangles between the two factions of the Congress, which was leading the UDF. He also lamented that cultural leaders had failed to respond to the situation appropriately. Mr. Thamarakshan questioned the relevance of organising the Global Investors' Meet when the Government was not able to protect industrial units existing in the State. The Kerala Construction Component Company, a public sector unit in the Chief Minister, A.K.Antony's own constituency, had been closed down. Similar was the fate of the majority of PSUs in the State, he said.
