Roh plans referendum

By P. S. Suryanarayana

SINGAPORE Oct. 13. The South Korean President, Roh Moo-hyun, today announced that he would seek the people's confidence in a national referendum that could be held around December 15.

Opting for this course of action in the face of the corruption scandals concerning his close aides, Mr. Roh told the National Assembly in Seoul today that should the referendum vote turn out to be against his continuance in office, he would order a fresh presidential election by April 15 next year.
