Advani should go: Youth Cong.

NEW DELHI OCT.13. The Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress led by its president, Rajesh Lilothia, today held a dharna to protest against "the worsening law and order situation in the Capital" and demand resignation of the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani. They accused the Delhi police of having failed to protect the life and property of the people who were no longer feeling safe living in the city which has been virtually taken over by criminal elements.

The Congress workers gathered at Jantar Mantar to lodge their strong protest against "the continued atrocities and criminal assaults on women and children in various parts of the Capital". Addressing the protestors, the DPCC president, Chaudhary Prem Singh, said the coming Assembly elections would herald the beginning of the downfall of the BJP-led Central Government, as the party would receive a big drubbing at the hustings. He said such was the state of affairs on the law and order front those women and children were being attacked during broad daylight with police looking the other side. He said the police officials were sitting in the air conditioned offices and were least bothered about the situation on the ground. He said Delhi was slowly and steadily becoming the crime capital of the country and the crime graph in the city had registered an increasing trend during the last few months. Mr. Advani, under whose Ministry the police came, should resign from office owning moral responsibility for this poor situation on the public order front, he added.

The chairman Media Committee and chief spokesman, Jagdish Tytler, said the Congress would intensify its agitation if Mr. Advani does not submit his resignation. At the same time, he also cautioned the youth in the party to be on the alert as attempts could be made by the BJP to create mischief in the run up for the party elections or during the campaign period. Former MP, Sajjan Kumar, said the misrule of the BJP at the Central Government was clearly reflecting on the law and order situation in the Capital, which was deteriorating at a fast pace.
