This Day That Age
Addressing the Attur Taluk Dravida Kazhagam conference, Mr. E.V. Ramaswami Naicker, founder of the Dravida Kazhagam, blamed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for having precipitated matters both in Tuticorin and Dalmiapuram, and for having taken part in the agitation in Tiruttani, when he was thinking of launching a movement against the new Primary Education Scheme of the State Government. The D.M.K. could have kept away from the agitations. By embarking upon a movement for such a trivial cause as changing the name of Dalmiapuram into Kallakkudi, and created confusion. Under such circumstances, he could not understand why some should think of bringing about a compromise between the D.K. and the D.M.K. The differences between the two Kazhagams were fundamental. People planning to catch votes were anxious for mediation. He was firmly opposed to the D.K. participating in any elections whatsoever; he wanted it to concentrate on work in the social sphere by bringing about equality among all communities with a view to establishing a classless society. Mr. Naicker emphasised that getting into power would corrupt people, and that his followers should not seek any kind of office. He appealed to workers all over the country not to resort to any kind of strike or quarrel with their capitalist-masters, but try to rectify the system. He warned them not to fall into the net of the Communists. The two-day conference was held in a special pandal named after the late Thiru. Vi. Ka.
