Bidhuri to contest from Badarpur

NEW DELHI OCT. 14. The Third Front chairman and Lok Janshakti Party senior vice-president, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, today announced that he would contest the forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls from the Badarpur constituency. In fact, Mr. Bidhuri got instant support from Chaudhary Fateh Singh Bhadana, brother-in-law of the sitting MLA, Ram Singh Netaji, who declared that he would work for Mr. Bidhuri's victory as he was unhappy with Mr. Netaji's performance over the past five years.

At the same time, Mr. Bidhuri said efforts would be made to bring the Third Front parties together to form an alliance at the national level. He said he would meet various leaders including, Sharad Pawar, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Laloo Prasad Yadav to form a Third Front at the national level and project Chandra Shekhar as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

Mr. Bidhuri, who was a member of the Delhi Assembly from 1993 to 1998, said the fact that Mr. Bhadana had extended support to him indicated that even the close relatives of the sitting MLA had turned against him in view of his patronage to the builder mafia. Mr. Bidhuri along with the Samajwadi Janata Party leader, H.N. Sharma, said the Third Front would contest all the 70 seats and the election campaign of the Front would be flagged off at a huge public meeting in the Capital on October 17 to be addressed by the Lok Janshakti Party president, RamVilas Paswan, and other senior leaders of the Third Front.

Mr. Bidhuri said talks were being held with other non-BJP and non-Congress parties to form a secular alliance in Delhi in order to defeat both the BJP and the Congress who had betrayed the trust of the people. Referring to his decision to contest the polls from Badarpur Assembly seat, he said the misrule and harassment unleashed by Mr. Netaji, who has since joined the Congress, had made him take this decision. He said a number of delegations had met him during the past few months urging him to contest from Badarpur as all developmental works had come to a standstill. The Badarpur Assembly constituency had suffered badly under the rule of Mr. Netaji and the area witnessed the rule of the builder mafia who encroached upon Government and public land to construct buildings illegally under the patronage of Mr. Netaji.

Chaudhaury Fateh Singh said he had worked for Mr. Netaji during the past two Assembly elections and had been his election in charge. But he had betrayed the mandate of the people and their trust by indulging in open loot in the constituency along with his goons. He said funds meant for development had not been spent properly and works had only been carried out on the paper.
