A Bench, comprising Justice S.K. Agrawal and Justice K.N. Sinha, said the State could not allow any organisation to defile public peace and destabilise public order. To this end, the State could prevent the puja and, if needed, detain people if their movements were suspicious, the court observed. The court on a writ petition filed by Manoj Saha of Uzzan Bazar, Guwahati, directed the Allahabad administration to take full care of the detained karsewaks and provide them basic amenities under the law. If the karsewaks wanted to go back, they should be granted permission, the court said. UNI
