Eight `militants' arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

NALGONDA OCT.14. The Devarakonda police arrested eight "hardcore militants,'' including a private medical practitioner belonging to the Krishnapatti dalam, in Usmankunta in Chandampet mandal and recovered a claymore mine and a battery on Tuesday.

The Devarakonda DSP, P.H.D. Ramakrishna, said Ketawat Raghu (20), Kalia (24), Mangya (20), Hemu (20) and Hari (25), members of the Gram Rakshka Dalam (GRD), Falthy Bhagat Singh (24), a PMP, Singam Anjaiah (21) and Singam Muttaiah (22) were arrested on the charge of "extending cooperation to the Krishnapatti dalam.''

Raghu, the president of the GRD, was about to join with the dalam and Bhagat Singh, his brother-in-law, had been providing medical aid and shelter to the dalam, Mr. Ramakrishana said.

Singh had worked with the Janasakthi group at his native place, Golla Buddaram of Bhupalpally mandal in Warangal district and had been actively helping the naxals for the last four years, he revealed. Singh was residing in Usmankunta after marrying the sister of Ketawat Raghu.

Kalia, one of the members of the GRD, had participated in the murder of the local TDP leader, Mekala Mallaiah of Kambalapally in February. Anjaiah's sister, Yellamma, had joined hands with the dalam recently while his father, Kasaiah, the village maskoor, was providing shelter to it in his home, the DSP said.

Meanwhile, the OSD, P.Viswa Prasad, in a press release said that the PW was exploiting the innocent downtrodden people to carry out its violence without minding the consequences. "Out of the eight persons arrested, six are tribals and remaining two are SCs and the PW wanted them to join the dalam after Dasara festival. Now the lives of these illiterates have been shattered with the arrest,'' he maintained and alleged that the PW was making the tribals criminals for its gain.

He appealed to the tribal youth not to get into the trap of the PW and spoil their valuable lives.
