A CCB release said that the 30-year-old Sundar Singh, (also known as Durai Singh) was involved in three murders, including that of Palanivel, an MDMK functionary at Chidambaram; Stalin, a Palayamkottai-based advocate and Jerry, a resident of Tiruvanmiyur here. Sundar Singh was detained under the Goondas Act on charges of extortion under the Kodambakkam police station limits in 2001. Further, he was involved in "illegal mediation" at Karur, Palayamkottai and Chennai. The release said that following specific information about his movement, a team intercepted Sundar Singh's vehicle near the Labour Statue on Kamarajar Salai. A country-made revolver, a pistol, a dozen bullets and knives were seized. He was remanded to judicial custody after being produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Egmore, CCB sources added.
