Regulatory order in Pondy

Pondicherry Oct. 14. A regulatory order under the Police Act was promulgated in the Pondicherry (North) division today, and it will be in force till Oct. 25.

The Superintendent of Police, V J Chandran, said the order would cover areas in the Grand Bazaar, Odianalsali, Muthialpet, Lawspet, Kalapet, D.Nagar, Orleanpet and Mettupalayam police stations. It was promulgated in view of processions and strikes planned by trade unions.

Those organising processions, meetings, agitations or demonstrations should obtain police permission at least 24 hours in advance.

The order however would not cover religious processions, funerals, marriage celebrations or government functions.
