On-line booking of tickets in Pondy from today

Pondicherry Oct.14. The Union Territory of Pondicherry will have the facility of booking of rail tickets through Internet from tomorrow.

The Public Relations Officer of the Tiruch division of Southern Railways, C. K. Sivaraj said over phone today that the residents of Pondicherry can access the website www.irctc.co.in to have the on line booking of tickets.

Booking of tickets might be done three days in advance.

The system of online booking of tickets by means of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) was introduced in August 2002 with booking of 115 tickets a day initially . The figure rose to 2500 tickets on an average a day.

The intending persons could get the facility and a pass word would be allotted to them once they register their names as user of the facility.No registration or processing fee would be levied.
