Bangalore to be hub of health tourism

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Oct. 14. The Minister of State for Tourism and Information Technology, D.B. Inamdar, has said that Bangalore is all set to receive patients from Bahrain for specialised treatment after a formal deal is struck between the State and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Addressing presspersons here today on the State's health tourism campaign, Mr. Inamdar said the State had attracted the attention of Bahrain's medical community and others concerned at the recently concluded International Health Tourism and Holiday Exhibition organised there.

The State Government first sensed Bangalore's potential to be a leading international healthcare destination at the Arabian Travel Mart held in May in Dubai. Encouraged by the number and quality of queries, the Government decided to initiate a medical/health tourism campaign at the international level, he said.

A ten-member delegation headed by him participated in the International Health Tourism and Holiday Exhibition where the State had its own pavilion.

Five leading hospitals — Hosmat, Manipal Hospital, Narayana Hrudayalaya, Sagar Apollo Hospital, and Soukya International Holistic Health Centre — participated in the exhibition, he said.

He said the city had a number of internationally renowned hospitals which could provide qualitative and cost-effective treatment.
