Two boats torched in clash

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI OCT 15 . Two boats from Tamil Nadu were torched in a clash between two sections of fishermen about 35 kilometres off the Munambam harbour here today.

Two persons have been arrested and 20 boats impounded at the harbour. Police have strengthened vigil along the coast, including Fort Kochi, Mattanchery and Munambam.

Police said the incident was part of an ongoing resistance by the traditional fishermen against fishing by motorised craft of the neighbouring States.

The Collector, Gyanesh Kumar, said a Coast Guard ship had been pressed into service in the evening and the help of the Navy sought.
